Central Pennsylvania is a beautiful and unique part of our country. It has always had an active off-highway motorcycle community. However, over the years, many of the areas that were once open to motorized recreation are no longer accessible. A group of enthusiasts realized this problem and questioned what they could do about it. Shortly after West Central Pennsylvania Off-Highway Motorcycle Association was born.
We were formed with one central goal in mind, to preserve and expand OHM recreation and the benefits it brings to the communities where these activities take place.
Be it cleaning up garbage, repairing environmental concerns, addressing trail design and safety issues, or working with land owners to bring public riding or amateur competition to the area, we aim to mobilize the OHM community to provide volunteer labor. We are an inclusive group who love the outdoors.
From our Bylaws: The purpose of the Corporation is to benefit the public by preserving and increasing outdoor recreation in and around the West Central Pennsylvania area. The Corporation seeks to create healthier, happier, and more economically secure communities by organizing volunteer labor and investing funds in public access OHM areas, environmental stewardship, and education. Where possible, the Corporation will seek to implement a “multi-use” trail policy, to offer access to as much of the public as possible without compromising safety or trail design.
Take a look at our neighboring state West Virginia. They have openly welcomed OHM's with their state run Hatfield McCoy Trail system, and now it is a huge economic driver in many communities. As of a 2019 study, Hatfield McCoy trail system generated 38 Million dollars in total economic impact in WV.
In contrast we look at areas with limited access to off-road riding and the negative impact it has. The internet is full of videos coming from major cities with motorcycles and ATV's riding down main roads with police in tow, riding irresponsibly through traffic. This not only has a negative financial impact on communities but also brings significant risk to citizens.
We want to ensure generations to come have access to clean and healthy trail systems. This not only brings financial benefits to local business but deters illegal activities. It can also help reduce the burden of government in providing the services we can provide, without spending taxpayer dollars.
